MONKEY BUSINESS
Biography
All four records of this great funky band from Prague opened
to enthusiastic reviews and sold out concert tours. Anything less would be considered
a failure, as bandleader and producer Roman Holy was not satisfied with having
the best Prague funketeers joining his new outfit. Instead, he invited funk
legend Fred Wesley to add some old school funk flavour.
Fred Wesley, best known for his time as James Brown’s band
leader and author of several hit records, including "Pass the Peas"
and "Houseparty", worked with Monkey Business on the first two albums,
writing the horn section arrangements and leading the section in the studio.
Another notable guest was David Williams, a regular of Michael Jackson and Madonna
records.
MB's albums offer 99 % tracks with English lyrics, tackling
matters as different as career choices or creation of the universe. All records
were published on the Sony Music Columbia label.
(2000) WHY BE IN WHEN YOU COULD BE OUT - the video for the
second single "Piece Of My Life" was nominated for the Czech Music
Award 2000 where Monkey Business won in two other categories: THE BEST BAND
and THE BEST NEWCOMER. The album was certified platinum. The band meanwile spread
with the arrival of "black magic woman" fantastic american singer
Tonya Graves who has already performed with them. In this line up Monkey Business
started to record their second album. And as usual there are many exciting accomplices
involved. Guitarist Hiram Bullock (Paul Simon, Chaka Khan, Sting, James Brown,
Miles Davis, Eric Clapton), Dr. Robert leader of the cult band The Blow Monkeys,
Fred Wesley, P-funk singers Parliament Funkadelic Ray Davies and Fuzzy Hoskins.
The best part of the recording was definitely cooperation with 71 members of
the Czech National Symphonic Orchestra conducted by famous Czech composer Mario
Klemens. The album SAVE THE ROBOTS was released in 2001 and was certified gold.
The third album RESISTANCE IS FUTILE was released in 2003.
Many interesting participants were again involved and the record 4 nominations
for the Czech Music Awards – THE BEST BAND, THE BEST POP ALBUM, THE BEST COVER,
THE BEST VIDEO are without the shadow of a doubt the mark of the earned success
of unfailing enthusiasm and musical talent of these guys.
2004 - an ultimate collection - 4DVD! "LAZY YOUTH OLD
BEGGARS" was released and received Czech music award for The Best DVD.
2005 – the new album KISS ME ON MY EGO was released with more
dream guests on board: Glenn Hudges (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath) in two tracks,
one of the best world's sax players David Sanborn and Hiram Bullock because
as you know "criminals always come back to the scene of crime"?
