No Rules is a band from Sweden, which started for real in
the autumn 2004. Before that, lead guitarist Tompa had been working alone for
many years in his home studio in the village Kallinge in Blekinge, Sweden. He
had done a couple of songs before with No Rules but with another singer, Jens
(he now sings back vocals in No Rules). But he needed to find a band and in
October 2004 he met Martin (the drummer).
They started jamming and playing together, and soon Martin
recorded the drums on some already finished songs, and they came up with some
new songs together in the studio. It was very easy to work together as they
listen to the same music (mostly) and both find strong melodies very important.
Sometime in 2005 when Tompa and Martin had recorded most of the album, Olof
(lead singer) came over (he is Tompa's neighbor) and heard the music and decided
to record the vocals on the twelve tracks. He wrote the lyrics in his forklift
at work and soon he recorded the vocals.
It has been many late nights, many hours and many days in the
studio next to their regular work but now the debut album "Where We Belong"
is finally finished. Our aim is to make melodic, symphonic rock with an original
touch. Our biggest inspirations are bands like Journey, Asia, Dream Theater,
Rush, Genesis, Black Sabbath, Saga, Camel, Yes and Marillion. The name No Rules
came from the fact that we use inspiration from many different music styles
and play what ever makes the music sound better. In the studio we have "no
rules" as of mixing everything together and try to come up with new and
original ideas without losing the main theme in the songs, therefore "Where
We Belong" is a very dynamic and melodic album.
