Mr. Brian Elder - Short interview

Mr. Brian Elder, please, introduce yourself.

Brian Elder: My name is Brian Elder and I am founder and organizer of Guitar Hero UK. I work with Pete Lunney from Strings and Things Ltd. UK who is responsible for the sponsors involved - Ernie Ball Musicman guitars, Ashdown amplifiers and Guitar Buyer magazine.

Tell us, please, something about Guitar Hero UK competition.

Brian Elder: I started Guitar Hero UK in Scotland 4 years ago (in Glasgow) and it has grown every year since. I now run finals in Birmingham (Ozzy's hometown) and London. The talent I have seen so far makes pop reality shows look really bad. The Guitar Hero UK competition looks for great guitaists in the Rock / Metal scene, but we also have Jazz, Blues, Country and Classical players entering the Blues / Alternative section and we also have a Singer / Songwriter section that does well every year. I don't run this as a business. I am a guitar player / teacher that purely loves guitar music in any form. Guitar Hero UK is a passion. I do my best to help all winners go on to do something in the music industry. We have one young guy called James 'Shredder' Bird (11 years old) who won the Rock / Metal section in Birmingham last year (he didn't win overall though) and has since played onstage with Zakk Wylde and BLS. He will probably make it onto the next Black Label Society DVD (due for release later this year).

Who won Guitar Hero UK 2005 competition?

Brian Elder: The winner of London Guitar Hero 2005 was a young Bosnian Herzegovian called Emir Hot. He was the proud winner of an Ernie Ball Axis guitar and a 'Fallen Angel' amp from Ashdown as well as the Guitar Hero trophy (which is hand carved from wood).

The London Guitar Hero Final took place at the London Guitar Show, Wembley on May 7th 2005.

Singer / Songwriter Winner - Kim Wei, Blues / Alternative Winner - Rachel Wood
Rock / Metal Winner - Andy Vickery

Would you be so kind to express your opinion about the performance of the young gentleman - Mr. Emir Hot (if you witnessed it, of course)?

Brian Elder: Yes I was at the Grand Final when Emir performed. He is a very good guitarist (and overall) musician. Your country should be very proud to have such a shining example (Emir) of your peoples' musical abilities. He is a very nice guy and quite funny. The judges at the final that picked Emir were: Gizz Butt - guitarist (ex-Prodigy), Mark Hewins -guitarist with Lou Reed and Bob Geldof, Tim Slater - journalist with Guitar Buyer magazine and Nick Owen - bass player with Ronan Keating and Dirty Vegas. I can quote directly from Gizz Butt's judging form, he said that Emir is "THE REAL DEAL", high praise indeed.

Thank you Mr. Elder for this statement.

Brian Elder: All the best, and good wishes. Keep up the good work.

Brian Elder, Guitar Hero Organizer, Guitar Hero UK
