HOLLAND MUSIC SCENE - SHORT PRESENTATION
 Golden Earring
In the 1950s and 1960s, like in many countries in the world, rock 'n' roll became
very popular in the Netherlands. Artists such as Elvis Presley, the Shadows
and the Ventures had a lot of influence on Dutch bands such as the Golden Earring,
whom we all know from the song "Radar love". The band started out
as the Tornador but after an English band with the same name scored a hit, they
renamed themselves. Their first hit "Please go" immediately became
one of the most popular songs in 1965 and their following song "That day"
would be the first Dutch song to be played on the radio in the United Kingdom.
During the 1970s the members of the band decided to take a different course
and started to focus more on heavuer rock music. During this period they became
extremely popular and they started to tour the whole European continent. With
their song "Radar love" the band brole all records and even reached
the music charts in the United States. After a relatively quiet period the band
made a comeback in the 1980s with the songs "Twilight zone" and "When
the lady smiles". Nowadays the band plays on many festivals and is still
  very popular.
Anouk
This lady from The Hague, known from the song "Nobody's wife" has
often been regarded by the Dutch music industry as a tough cookie. After a short
period on the music academy, Anouk starts singing on parties and festivals and
meets her first husband Barry Hay from the Golden Earring. With his support
she is able to write her first single "Mood indigo". Her second single,
"Nobody's wife" remains to be her greatest success. For weeks the
single dominates all pop charts, both with her single and her album "Together
alone". After playing on several Dutch festivals, the singer decides to
try it in the United States, although unfortunately this does not work out so
well. In 2005, Anouk makes the album "Hotel New York" and creates
a huge hype in the music industry with her songs "Girls" and "Lost"
and she sells 200.000 of her albums. In Belgium and the Netherlands she is more
popular than ever and since the start of her career she has won several prices
of which: Several TMF awards, a prize for the best new single ("Nobody's
wife"), best new coming act, 2 Edison awards for the best live act and
the best video clip, an awards for best female artists and best artists and
  prizes at the MTV awards.

Kane
This Dutch band started in The Hague in 1998 and was inspired by U2. The band
started out as a support band of the German Guano Apes. In 1999 the band broke
all records with the song "Where do I go now" and although the lead
singer Dinand Woesthoff was studying engineering at the time, he dropped out
of school after the single proved to be a success. The album "As long as
you want this" to which the song belongs dominated many music charts for
almost a year and a half and received gold and platina. One of their songs,
"Rain down on me" was used as a remix made by DJ Tiesto for the game
Fifa 2002. Throughout their career, the band has received many TMF and MTV awards
for best rock group, best album, best web site, best alternative international
  music...
