Afenginn means intoxication and strength in Old Norse! Their
homebrewed and unique style is categorized as Bastard - Punk - Ethno, with a
sigh of Nordic melancholy and a twist of cheerful madness.
Afenginn's musical universe can be described as an exiting
blend of Slavic Eastern Europe, odd Balkan meters, the speed of klezmer, insane
polkas, rock'n'roll feel and classical compostition. It's a twilight zone, where
you also find Tom Waits, Gogol Bordello and Kaizers Orchestra.
Afenginn was formed in Copenhagen, 2002, by five musicians
with very different musical backgrounds. The result is original and virtuoso
music that grows out of the roots of world, punk and folk.
Afenginn has at several occasions performed with a complete
symphony orchestra and is one of the most interesting and upcoming acts on the
Scandinavian world / folk scene.
In 2004 the debut album "Retrograd" was released.
In addition to many positive reviews, the album received a Danish Music Award
as "Best World Album 2005". With the release of the second album "Akrobakkus"
in 2006, Afenginn has purified and developed their style. The album has guest
musicians in the multitalented actor Zlatko Buric and the gipsy cimbalom virtuoso
George Mihalache.
With the release of their second album, "Akrobakkus",
Afenginn purified and developed this style. The album has guest musicians in
the multitalented actor Zlatko Buric and the gipsy cimbalom virtuoso George
Mihalache. The orchestra plays exclusively own compositions and has toured actively
in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Faroe Islands, Germany, Belgium, Estonia
and Switzerland with over 200 concerts in the past years.
