Gaia
Gaia (USA) is: Dominique Garrao ; Washington Junior ; Mark
Mandel ; Nicholas Welch
Gaia was formed during May 2004 in Broward County, Florida
by guitarist Dominique Garrao and drummer / keyboardist Mark Mandel. Shortly
after joining with bassist Federico Vidal, the band began writing the material
that would later be included on their first demo, "The Final Question".
The three song demo included contributions from guitarist Jean Luis Contreras,
who participated as a guest and later remained as a permanent member.
"The Final Question" garnered the band much attention
from underground outlets in the progressive metal community. It was reviewed
by a number of notable Internet and print magazines and received constant airplay
from radio shows such as New York's "Last Exit For The Lost" and online
outlets Progulus and Metalnetradio - the latter of which named Gaia 3rd place
among the top 5 greatest independent releases.
In 2005, Gaia recorded "Praxis". The album contains 10 songs, and
was mixed by the skillful hands of Adrian Morales and mastered by Jim Morris
at Morrisound Studios. A video documentary produced by Jean Contreras was included
on the disc.
"Praxis" saw the band moving into a much more experimental
phase, including sounds that range from flamenco jazz to techno. After two songs
of the new album were featured on ProgPower USA compilation CD's and received
plently of airplay, "Praxis" was released officially on August 1st,
2006. Gaia debuted the material live at Club Revolution in South Florida.
Currently the band enjoys the support of over 14,000 fans in
the music section of the well-known wesbite Myspace.com, where the full version
of "Praxis" is available for sale by download. With sales of the album
continuing strongly, the band is now preparing for heavy tour activity.
