Hulda is rock / metal / punk band from Astoria, New
York, United States of America.
Hulda - "Forest of the Night" -
by Dan Bernal
This collection of early '80s-ish rock tunes nestles itself
somewhere between The Cranberries and Joan Jett, slightly burned-out chick-fronted
grind with less hope in their lyrics than heart. The tempo, keys, and
style vary little from song to song, but at least they don't diversify
your ass into confusion. Themes include ancient Greek deities, an
impending ice age, and the titular "Forest of the Night"... with Dio
nowhere in sight (at his size, that's not really their fault). Any set
of boobs on stage is a step up, stand on these and the view will improve.

Hulda set out with their debut album "Forest of the
Night" to
create something unique and original. At the same time Hulda acknowledges
influences such as Kiss, Cheap Trick, Blondie, Nirvana and The Ramones.
Hulda's vision is to combine invention and rock is expressed with a
mixture of classic and new styles. "Forest of the Night" is one of the most unique
sounding debut albums on
the new millenium.
"Forest of the Night" takes you on a trip, it presents a puzzle
that
makes you think, that makes you feel the full spectrum of human
emotions, the album entertains you and provokes you to ask questions
that should be asked. So how does "Forest of the Night" sound? Glad
you asked.
Hulda brings together four friends, each with a love of music and their
own talents to bring a different feel to hard rock music. An excellent
range of various influences from metal to Goth to classic rock and punk.
By emphasizing attention to detail and the layers of sound, they have
been able to stand out as a fairly new act that pleasantly surprises
listeners and is winning over the loyalty of new fans one show at a time.
Founded in the spring 2003 in New York City by two ex pat. Australians
Lydia and Al. They both had played in the same bands years ago and years
later completely by chance ran into each other. The duo had both been in
punk, and rock bands, and aimed to write rock music that had an edge.
Declan and Keko came into the picture after answering ads
for auditions in The Village Voice. There was instant chemistry between all
four
musicians. Hulda has since developed from a studio band into a polished
live act. From the high energy of front woman Lydia and the powerful
lead guitar skills of Al, to a strong rhythm section consisting of Keko
on drums, and Declan on bass, Hulda encompasses all aspects of a
successful rock band.
During the Spring of 2004, Hulda finished their first release
full-length release "Forest of the Night". Fall plans include a tour in
support of "Forest of the Night" LP. Look out for Hulda - coming soon to
YOUR area!
