Virgil is rock / funk / jam band from
Nashville, Tennessee,
United States of America. band members are:
Ronnie Godfrey (Keys, Vocals),
Steve Johnson (Drums, Vocals),
Casey Lutton (Guitar, Vocals) and
Michael Thorn (Bass).
Virgil was formed in March of 2000 to enrich the lives
of our listeners and to play the music we love. Virgil is proud to announce
the completion of its
first record entitled "Standin' In A Circle," and you can expect
some righteous renderings when you check out this music. We encourage you to
download anything you see or hear on this
web site and, if you like our lyrics
and music, spread the word and encourage everyone who is like-minded to do
the same. The messages in these songs are not new; people throughout the history
of mankind of deplored war, genocide and man's constant inhumanity to man.
It is our hope that, in some small way, our music will revive the hope of world
peace someday and a better understanding and tolerance among the many races
and religious factions on earth. In these tumultuous times, love and peace
are not fashionable words but they are still and will forever be the key components
of human happiness and survival!
Hypnotic Casey Lutton
(guitar, vocals) is a long time Nashvillian. He's played with Homesick James,
Rufus Thomas, Bo Diddley and others. He toured
France
and Italy with blues queen Marion James. For several years he hosted a
blues radio show on WRVU and WYOR. Lutton is well known around Nashville for
his
blues jam sessions, where anyone and everyone gets a chance to strut their
stuff. When he straps on his Telecaster, no snake goes uncharmed.
Michael
Thorn (bass) is from Jackson, MS. He grew up playing southern
rock and chitlin' circuit R&B which is evident in his soulful bass performances.
He played with Dorothy Moore ("Misty Blue") and Percy Sledge ("When A Man
Loves a Woman") as well as countless other blues, country and alternative rock
acts
including blues queen Marion James. Thorn has made several trips to Europe
with various artists and is actively involved in playing sessions in the
Nashville area.
Ronnie Godfrey (keyboards, vocals) from Greenville SC has
been playing piano singing and writing songs since he was 8 years old. Godfrey
has had songs
recorded by Billy Joe Royal, The Marshall Tucker Band and earned a Gold Record
for his Ty Herndon cut, "Hat Full Of Rain" from the "What
Mattered Most" disk. He played with The Marshall Tucker Band for 3 years
and recorded 3 albums with them for Warner Brothers. Ronnie has recently
completed background vocal performances on Leon Russell's latest disk, "Angel
In Disguise." Ronnie is a powerful singer and a soulful player with
a love for good music, especially Rhythm and Blues.
Steve Johnson from Auburn Maine is one of the funkiest drummers you'll ever
hear. His life long love for jazz and blues has compelled him to play drums
from the age of 12. During his years in Maine he played with many great musicians
including Jerry Portnoy, Pinetop Perkins and Boston's First Lady of the Blues,
Shirley Lewis. Johnson moved to Nashville and hooked up with: Archie Bell
of Archie Bell and the Drells, Billy Cox of the Jimi
Hendrix Experience,
saxophonist Bobby Keys of the Rolling Stones, as well as country artists
Hank Snow, Freddie Hart, and Hank Thompson. Steve also did several tours
with Jason Ricci and New Blood.
